Northern Shield Resources Inc. is a Canadian-based company focused on exploring for platinum group element ("PGE") and nickel-copper-PGE deposits, primarily in the Labrador Trough of Northern Quebec. Northern Shield is known as a leader in grass roots exploration for Ni-Cu-PGEs and the understanding of magmatic systems as it applies to exploration.

Northern Shield is a leading North American PGE explorer with over 240 square kilometres of claims in the Labrador Trough. The Company believes its Huckleberry, Idefix and Séquoi properties in northern Quebec have significant potential to host Giant Ni-Cu-PGE Ore Deposits.

Projects in Hand

(1) Huckleberry Cu-Ni-PGE Project, Northern Quebec

The Huckleberry property is located 100 kilometers north of the mining town of Schefferville, in the Labrador Trough of northern Quebec, which is linked by railway to the Saint Lawrence River. The Huckleberry Property currently consists of 57 claims covering 25 sq. km.

Northern Shield discovered significant Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization at Huckleberry in 2015 with 97 samples averaging 1.0% Cu, 0.2% Ni and 0.72 g/t PGE+Au. Huckleberry is being explored as a large-scale segregated magmatic deposit. Exploration at Huckleberry has unearthed abundant evidence of features common to giant ore deposits including taxitic textures, xenoliths, and abundance of mineralized brecciated rocks.

NRN signed an Option and Joint Venture Agreement with South32 Ltd. on the Huckleberry Property (June 7, 2016)

Huckleberry Option Terms

South32 50% earn-in:

  • C$200,000 immediate to NRN
  • Incur C$2.5M within two years including $1.2M in Year 1

South32 further 20% earn-in:

  • Incur an additional C$2.5M in expenditures in Year 3

During earn-in NRN:

  • Remains operator and receives 10% management fee
  • Receives Quebec Exploration refund (approx. 30% of expenditures)
  • NRN interest carried to completion of Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA)

Huckleberry Summary

  • Extensive Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization
    • Discovered by Northern Shield in 2015
    • Mineralization can be found over a 3 km strike-length:
      • Average Cu:1.1%, range 0.3 – 14%
      • Average Ni: 0.2 %, range 0.1 – 1.2%
      • Average PGE+Au 0.8 g/t, range 0.3 – 17g/t.
  • Mineralization is “segregated” whereby the Cu has separated from the Ni during very slow cooling
    • Cu is typically found higher up in the intrusion and Ni at depth
    • Deposits formed from the results of segregation tend to be very large
    • Duluth Complex, Noril'sk-Talnakh, Kevitsa-Sakatti are all examples of segregated Cu-Ni-PGE deposits
  • There is more mineralization to be found
    • Boulder assaying 4% Cu indicates a zone of higher grade copper exists within the property
    • The discovery of a xenolith of semi-massive sulphides assaying 1.2% Ni suggests the nickel-rich portion may be below the copper or nearby in a conduit

Huckleberry Drill Program

  • Drilling underway at Huckleberry to test 4-5 VTEM targets in different parts of the intrusion
    • On October 5, 2016, Northern Shield announced that the initial drill program has been completed at the Huckleberry property. Seven holes totaling 2,053 meters were drilled, including one hole abandoned for technical reasons. Drilling continues to show the olivine melagabbro and peridotite of the western copper zone to be the primary target of interest.
  • Larger drill program planned for next year

(2) Idefix Project, Northern Quebec

The Company's 100%-owned Idefix Property is located 75 kilometres northwest of the Community of Kuujjuaq, in the Nunavik region of the province of Quebec. The Idefix Property consists of 45 claims covering 19.49 sq. km.

Evidence of Massive Ni-Cu-PGE Sulphides at Idefix

  • Globules of sulphide observed on surface and in every all 14 drill-holes completed to date.
  • The globules contain ~2% Ni, ~4% Cu and ~20 g/t PGE.
  • They are very similar to the globules observed adjacent the massive sulphides at Noril'sk.
  • Initial review of the VTEM data shows a 3 kilometer long coincident magnetic-EM anomaly underlies the globules.

(3) Séquoi Project, Northern Quebec

The Company's 100%-owned Séquoi property is located 10 km east of Huckleberry and consists of 73 claims. The Séquoi property covers a large multi-lobed magnetic anomaly and is being explored for Noril'sk style Ni-Cu-PGE massive sulphides.

After geophysical modelling and interpretation of the VTEM data from Séquoi, six VTEM anomalies of significant interest have been identified. Modelled conductivities are all greater than 3000 Siemens and modeled thicknesses range between 50 and 100 metres. Strike lengths of individual conductors range from 200 to 1100 metres. Most of the conductors are associated with relatively high magnetism.

Northern Shield started

On October 5, 2016, Northern Shield announced that a 1,000- to 1,500-metre drill program at the Séquoi property is expected to commence in mid-November after the ground has frozen and the weather stabilized.

While the data collected to date suggest Huckleberry could be a giant ore deposit, the Séquoi Target could be even bigger.

2016 / 2017 Exploration Plans

  • VTEM modelling from Huckleberry identified 15 EM anomalies of interest
  • VTEM modelling from Séquoi identified 6 high priority and highly conductive EM targets 50 to 100 metres thick.
  • Drilling is underway at Huckleberry and will shortly commence at Séquoi (weather permitting)
  • VTEM results from Idefix and Sé2 also identified very compelling targets which will be drill tested next year

News Update

On November 22, 2016, Northern Shield Resources Inc. announced that a drill crew is being mobilized to Northern Shield Resources Inc.'s 100-per-cent-owned Séquoi property in the Labrador Trough, Northern Quebec.

The program plans for five to seven drill holes, totalling 1,000 metres, to test five geophysical targets that the Company believes to represent large-scale nickel-copper-platinum-group-element magmatic deposits.
